An Active Tacking and Projection-based 3D Reconstruction Method for Moving Objects

The three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction method based on structured light projection is widely employed in the industrial field due to its high accuracy, fast speed, and nonreliance on object texture information. However, existing structured light 3D reconstruction systems face challenges in reconstructing moving objects, as the static nature of conventional light sources in structured light systems limits their effectiveness in projecting onto moving objects. This study introduces an active tracking and projection-based 3D reconstruction method using structured light, specifically designed for moving objects. Using galvanometer-based active camera system for tracking and feeding the results back to a similarly equipped active projection system, this method can project patterns on moving objects in real-time for 3-D reconstruction. A series of control sequences for multiple galvanometers and cameras have been designed to achieve synchronized active tracking and projection. Additionally, geometric models for both the active camera and projection systems have been developed. Experimental results confirm that the proposed method attains precise 3D reconstruction of moving objects, with a reconstruction error within 0.2 mm.
