A Parallel-Connected Tunable Matching Network and Impedance Compression Network for Inductive Charging of Electric Vehicles

Designing IPT EV charging systems to deliver constant power is a nontrivial task, as power delivery depends on multiple factors that vary during operation, namely coupling factor and battery voltage. In response, this abstract proposes a novel IPT EV charging system that combines a ZCN with a TMN connected in parallel with the secondary pad to handle changes in both coupling factor and battery voltage respectively. This configuration uses fewer switches and passive elements than other similar systems. Simulation results of a 7.5 kW system show that the proposed system can easily compensate for up to a two-times change in coupling factor in conjunction with a 1.5-times change in battery voltage.
