A Solenoid Magnetic Coupler With a Rotating Magnetic Field for UAVs Wireless Charging

This paper proposes a solenoid magnetic coupler for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) wireless charging, which can significantly reduce leakage magnetic flux interference on UAV equipment. The transmitter is composed of three-phase solenoid coils, it mainly generates horizontal magnetic flux while the vertical magnetic flux is very weak, resulting in low leakage magnetic flux interference. The receiver consists of two solenoid coils wound at the landing gear of the UAV, which is compact, lightweight, and conformal. Besides, it will not increase additional installation space or increase wind drag. A rotating magnetic field is generated under excitation currents phase difference of 120°, which ensures power transmission stability regardless of the UAV's angle and position. The simulation results show that the received power maintains at 75 W-105 W under any receiver angle or position, which indicates that the proposed system has good rotational and positional misalignment tolerance.
