Analysis of losses in ferromagnetic materials in synchronous motor with permanent magnets

This paper deals with investigation and calculation of iron losses in ferromagnetic materials within different methods with the same material. Laboratory measurements were carried out to calculate the iron losses of an available permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Additionally, the Steinmetz equation was used for analytical calculations of iron losses. Values obtained from Epstein measurements were used for the purpose of calculation and comparison. Lastly finite element analysis was conducted for purpose of iron losses calculation. The outcomes derived from these procedures were then assessed and compared. Refining the calculations of losses gives us a better idea of their origin, behavior, and subsequent reduction, which results in more efficient machines.
