EV Charging Power Allocation and Optimization with Hilbert Curve

The increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) will significantly load the electrical grid, especially the distribution grid, in the coming years. This new type of consumer puts a higher power demand on the electrical grid over a relatively long period of time. Many users with similar consumption patterns can subsequently strain the grid in a critical way and cause overload situations. To ensure the stability of the grid, the utilization needs to be predicted and planned. In this paper, a new method is presented in which customers provide the grid operator with the charging power of their EV as flexibility. Under the fulfillment of specific rules and boundary conditions, the grid operator can avoid critical situations by shifting this flexibility. Various allocation algorithms based on information technology methods are considered and evolved. They are evaluated based on their ability to prevent overload situations while exhibiting fair and non-discrimination behavior. After evaluating the results, it is shown that the selection of the allocation algorithm can be improved through an analysis of available power based on the Hilbert curve.
