Truck Performance Analysis by Testing and Finite Element Method

Based on the requirements of ECERt37 for N1 trucks, this paper optimized and improved the crash safety performance of a vehicle in sales from two aspects of body structure and occupant restraint system. Firstly, the FE model of full vehicle frontal collision was built, and the correlation analysis was carried out. According to the analysis results, the improvement suggestions of BIW were put forward. Secondly, the occupant restraint system was further optimized based on the improved BIW to reduce the chest deflection, femur force and the upward movement of the steering column. Finally, the above improvement proposals were engineered and reflected in the proto vehicle, and the vehicle assessment test was organized. The results showed that all points meet the regulatory requirements, thus verifying the effectiveness of the optimization proposals.
