The Ontological Approach in the Information System “Knowledge Ark”: Knowledge Synthesis and Formalization of Encyclopedic Activities

The information system “Knowledge Ark” is an ontological information system developed by Lomonosov Moscow State University. This article discusses the use of the ontological approach within the “Knowledge Ark” project for knowledge synthesis from various sources and formalization of encyclopedic activities. The research describes the stages of ontology creation, the features and advantages of using mathematical tools such as relational logic and graph theory for building ontologies. The significance of information accuracy and knowledge harmonization when working with extensive texts is also considered. The development of ontologies within the “Knowledge Ark” project combines the efforts of applied mathematicians, cyberneticists, programmers, and applied linguists. The focus is on creating the “Knowledge Ark” information system based on scientifically grounded ontologies and its integration with the Russian community through the “Great Russian Encyclopedia” portal.
