The Use of the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) as a Way to Register Partial Discharges

The article presents the development of a method and device for monitoring high-voltage insulation (HVI) based on determining the power level of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) as a method of registering partial discharges (PD). This approach has an advantage over analogs as it calculates the average power of electromagnetic radiation, avoiding the need to record each individual PD and, consequently, eliminating the requirement for high processing power. The solution addresses fundamental challenges associated with constant radio frequency interference (such as FM radio, GSM, television), periodic interference (corona discharges), and random interference (amateur radio devices, emergency situations).
