Electric Drive of a Single-Phase DC Electric Locomotive with Adaptive Excitation and Axial Traction Control

The purpose of the research was to develop an effective circuit design solution for controlled excitation converters of collector traction motors. The object of the study was an electro-technical complex of a 3ES5K three-section electric locomotive of single-phase direct current of “Ermak” type with a capacity of 9840 kW. To solve this problem, the characteristics of electric locomotives with collector and asynchronous drive have been compared. Based on the results of the conducted research, the development, the structural and parametric synthesis of a new power electrical circuit of the 3ES5K electric locomotive was carried out using individual controlled transistor bridge IGBT excitation converters for traction electric motors. For this purpose, the methods of mathematical modeling of electromagnetic, electromechanical and mechanical processes in the environment of MatLab, Simulink, and SimPowerSystems were used. The results obtained are presented in the form of control principles and the developed scheme of controlled transistor bridge IGBT excitation converters for traction electric motors shunting the excitation windings for axial traction control. The proposed control algorithm allows for a smooth increase in the traction force of the electric locomotive to the set values by sequentially switching on the traction motors. The calculations performed confirmed the possibility of implementing the scheme applicable in the manufacture of new locomotives and the modernization of the operated electric locomotives, which will ensure an increase in the efficiency of single-phase DC electric locomotives.
