Abstract:
Biophilia, which is a desire to connect with nature, is currently being discussed from various perspectives such as biophilic design for landscape and workplace, as well as biophilic urban design. However, each biophilia-related business focuses on the use of nature in pursuit of human convenience and enriching human experiences. This highlights the need for a nature conservation perspective in biophilia- related activities. Although regulations, acts, and measures regarding nature conservation are conducted across countries, not only agency of individuals but also collaboration with various stakeholders, including industries, local governments, nonprofit organizations (NPOs), and residents, is necessary to conduct productive safeguard nature actions. This study introduces biophilia as a service (BaaS) to promote active, responsible support from individuals on the basis of biophilia awareness and to execute nature safeguard actions in collaborating with various organizations and services, contributing to benefits to human and nature resilience. First, we define the BaaS concept, and describe its strategic structure, and operational activities from an integrated view as a System of Systems (SoS) by utilizing the unified architecture framework (UAF). Furthermore, we illustrate the significance of BaaS to present a comprehensive picture for nature safeguard actions in collaboration with various stakeholders such as residents, local governments, industries and NPOs.
