Adaptive Control Scheme for Hybrid Microgrid Resynchronization with Virtual Synchronous Generator and Active Detection Technique

This paper presents an innovative Adaptive Control Scheme (ACS) aimed to offer seamless transitions between different operational modes at hybrid microgrid systems (HMGs) by determining reference power conditions and providing resynchronization operation. The integration of ACS output with a voltage synchronous generator (VSG) improves the system dynamics by regulating the voltage and frequency. Moreover, the ADT method analyzes current signals to extract information on nonlinearity and reactive current, enabling the generation of fundamental active and reactive current components. The combined outputs from VSG and ADT controllers are integrated to derive a reference current component for parallel inverter pulse generation by reference current extraction (RCE) unit, thereby optimizing system operation. Simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation demonstrate the simplicity and negligible time delay of the proposed ACS, exhibiting significant performance improvements over traditional methods such as instantaneous power theory (IPT) and V-Q droop results through numerous case studies. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis confirms the robustness of the ACS design, highlighting its potential for practical implementation in HMGs.
