Evaluation of the Effective Degree of Freedom for Multiport Antenna Element

The multiple-input and multiple-output performance of multiport antenna element is investigated based on a three-port antenna. Both anechoic chamber and reverberation chamber are used to simulate line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight scenarios, respectively. It is demonstrated that the peak effective degree of freedom (EDoF) for the threeport antenna is
$50{{\% }}$
higher than that of dual-polarized antenna, which can only be achieved at higher SNR region, especially for line-of-sight scenarios. Moreover, when the SNR is
$20{{\ dB}}$
, the EDoF of the three-port antenna is only slightly higher than dual-polarized antenna in anechoic chamber, whereas the EDoF of the three-port antenna is

higher than DP antenna in reverberation chamber.
