A 220 GHz Mixer Based on Dual Circuit-Port Technique Utilizing Planar Schottky Diodes

In this study, we present a novel internal port assignment technique, known as the dual-circuit port (DCP) technique, applied for the design of sub-harmonic mixers utilizing planar Schottky diodes in the terahertz transceiver system. The DCP technique exhibits a consistent relationship between port numbers in the 3-D model and intrinsic model, offering clear physical meaning often neglected in conventional designs. Moreover, this technique enhances the accuracy of simulating the open state of planar Schottky diodes. To investigate the proposed DCP technique, a 220 GHz sub-harmonic mixer is designed based on planar Schottky barrier diodes. The simulation results of the mixer obtained from different internal port assignment techniques are compared.
