The Effect of Drop-Shaped Pin Fin on the Heat Transfer of Finned Tube

The heat transfer characteristics of airflow passing over a tube embedded with pin fins have been numerically investigated. A comparison was made between circular and drop-shaped pin fins, both having identical cross-sectional areas and arranged in-line. The Reynolds number, based on the hydraulic diameter, varied from 5430 to 27170. The effectiveness of the drop-shaped pin fins was found to be higher than that of the circular pin fins by $4.88-19.59 \%$. Concerning specific performance parameters, drop-shaped pin fins emerge as an encouraging alternative configuration to their circular counterparts.
