Introduction of the Image Processing and Machine Learning Techniques for Pupils

The paper deals with the problem of introducing some modern computer engineering techniques into the supplementary educational process for students of schools. The discussed techniques are as follows: image processing (color management, gamma correction, image quality improvement), steganography, classifiers based on different machine learning methods (artificial neural networks, decision trees, support vector machines). The goal is to create some scalable instruments for building up short-term (master-class format) or long-term (series of lectures and laboratories) courses, from 2 to 32 academic hours, for pupils of the 10th or 11th forms of the Russian high schools. The motivation, content of courses and the facilities used are described and some results of the courses implementation are discussed.
