Interactive Applications with Graphic User Interfaces for STEM Engineering Education

The article is devoted to the support of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) technologies in engineering education. It is shown that STEAM technologies are impossible without an environment for describing problem settings, tools for simple and fast building of graphical user interfaces, performing computational experiment, presentation and visualization of initial data, results and storytelling. Also, tools are needed for rapid web applications development, or interactive solution of inverse (design) problems, statistical modeling, virtual laboratories. A set of requirements for solving these problems is discussed. Python ecosystem technologies that can be used for their solution are considered, including JupyterLab, Jupyter Notebook, JupyterHub, Voila, voici, Reacton, Solara, Flet, Shiny, BeeWare, marimo, Mercury, Streamlit, Streamsync, Taipy, Reflex, Trame, PyVibe, Plotly Dash. The technologies are compared for compliance with the stated requirements. The selection of a technology chain to support STEAM in the engineering education is discussed.
