Laboratory Information Technologies for Pore Water Analysis of Arctic Seabed Sediments

Geological surveys include a comprehensive understanding of the object as a part of the natural system. Moreover, the processes of transformation of the investigated geological system in time and space can be correctly and quickly assessed only with the use of virtual models that simulate real variants of situations. Nowadays, geology has been significantly subjected to digitalization and introduction of various software complexes. Nevertheless, it is important not only to be able to apply software complexes for studies at various sites, but also to go beyond the proposed situations, using the full potential of the programs. This article describes information technologies used in the Laboratory of Hydrogeology, Hydrogeochemistry and Mathematical Modeling of Hydrogeological Processes of the Hydrogeology Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University to train students in the complex acquisition of geological information, as well as the implementation of the obtained knowledge for scientific research of the geological cycle. In particular, the application of information technologies is considered as an approach to understanding geochemical processes in the system “bottom sediments-pore water” on the shelf of the Arctic seas with the help of thermodynamic modeling software packages.
