Information and Communication Technologies in Education – Evolution or Revolution?

With the development of technology, the education systems of various countries are undergoing certain changes aimed at an increasingly wider range of students. Printing, which arose in the XV century, made it possible, in a relatively short time, to collect and preserve a significant amount of knowledge acquired by humanity over the past period. Since this time, education systems have begun to become an increasingly important part of society and increasingly influence its development. The exchange of knowledge between schools and universities in different countries is expanding. Teaching methods are being developed at various levels, educational and methodological materials are being created, a logically sound training system is being built, starting from teaching children and then adults, including with the aim of improving their qualifications and retraining. Certain standards are being developed and implemented to establish consistency between the education systems of different countries. Various enterprises and organizations are becoming increasingly involved in the educational process, since they are the ones interested in training relevant specialists who enter the labor market after completing their studies. Considering the increasing speed of change in the workers needed by enterprises with new competencies, enterprises themselves become organizers of a system of advanced training and retraining, thereby complementing existing education systems in the form of various colleges, institutes, and universities.This article examines the processes occurring in the education system with the expanding use of distance technologies and a variety of electronic educational and methodological resources, including artificial intelligence systems. The experience of various Russian and foreign educational institutions is considered, taking into account different requirements for the educational process, systems for assessing the quality of education, the demand for graduates, and the attitude of students themselves to the new technological solutions used.
