Visualization Algorithms for Rendering of Volumetric Clouds

In the present paper, existing visualization algorithms for rendering of atmospheric clouds are described, particle system algorithm and raymarching algorithm are compared. The raymarching algorithm is chosen as a relevant visualization algorithm. Existing optimization strategies of raymarching algorithm are discussed. Rendering in low resolution is proposed to increase the performance. It is suggested to use the FXAA algorithm to maintain decent image quality. Application of different weather maps such as procedurally generated Perlin noise map and radar image is discussed. A study was conducted to investigate atmospheric clouds rendering techniques as well as suggest methods to improve rendering techniques. To demonstrate the results of the study a framework was developed using C++ language and OpenGL API.
