Possibilities of Integrating MOOCs in Humanitarian and Technical Students Foreign Language Curriculums

The article considers MOOCs as one of the ways to organize the learning of foreign languages in higher education by using information and communication technologies. The authors analyzed scientific papers devoted to foreign and domestic open educational platforms and courses hosted on them, and identified the main advantages and disadvantages of MOOCs. The purpose of the work is to find out the level of awareness and practical application of online format courses among the students. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: to conduct a survey of the students at the Translation Faculty of Minsk State Linguistic University (MGLU) and the students of technical specialities of Natioanal Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” (NRU “MPEI”), to compare and analyze the results obtained. The possibility of using MOOCs as a part of the language training of humanitarian and technical students is also considered. As a result of this work, the authors came to the conclusion that, despite the advantages of using MOOCs in the pedagogical process, it was impossible to completely replace the classroom work with an online format course due to organizational difficulties.
