Studies on Radioluminescence Dose-Rate Measurement Based on LiF:Mg,Ti and SiPM

The development of real-time dosimetry depends on the progress of nuclear radiation detector and measurement principle. The development of a tissue-equivalent, portable, and low-power detector is imperative. A novel nuclear radiation detector based on lithium fluoride (LiF):Mg,Ti coupled with a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) has been developed for real-time dosimetry using count acquisition in this study, taking the inherent virtue of LiF:Mg,Ti and SiPM into account. First, the Monte Carlo simulation was adopted for detector design using Super-MC, and then the performance of the detector was tested experimentally. The simulation and experimental results show good agreement. The detector has good optical quality, and the experimental reproducibility (0.25%) and the linear dose-rate responses of the two (respectively, assembled by
$20\times 20\times 20$
mm and
$13\times 13\times 20$
mm LiF:Mg,Ti crystals) range from 0.2 mGy/h to 1.07 Gy/h, which is the sign that it can partly complement the shortcomings of common scintillation detectors in the field of high-dose-rate measurement. Moreover, it can be anticipated that the novel dosimeter would have a flexible dose-rate range by adjusting the crystal size for different measurement demands, especially for high dosimetry at room temperature.
