IoT-Enabled Sustainable Farming Framework

I Irrigation methods that are supported by the Internet of Things (IoT) has shown a great potential in increasing the efficiency of water resources in the Indian agriculture environment. Traditional IoT enabled irrigation systems, which only focus on the efficient use of water, cannot be implemented in the regions facing water scarcity. The study therefore aims to present a solution to this problem by integrating automated watering of the crops with the humidity to water conversion mechanism. This system collects real time soil moisture data from the soil moisture sensors placed in the agriculture field and maps it with the specific water requirements of the crops. The humidity to water conversion setup, which works under the principle of condensation, generate the water using the water in the environment and as per the requirements of the crops. The proposed system can create 1 litre of water every hour taking into consideration the evapotranspiration circumstances and crop varieties. This IoT based system, with the ability to generate water gives a sustainable solution for the regions where farming is not efficient due to the shortage in water supply. This approach is novel as it not only improves water usage, but also generates the water.
