IoT Monitoring System -based enabling Intelligent power Transformer using Raspberry Pi Technology

In the field of electrical power distribution, transformers play a crucial role in adjusting primary voltage levels to more user-friendly lower voltages. However, distribution transformers, being on the costlier side, necessitate close monitoring. This study introduces a novel system for observing key attributes of these transformers, encompassing aspects like loads currents, voltage variations, level of oil fluctuations, and changes in temperature. At its core, the system employs a standalone microprocessor coupled with sensor arrays, strategically placed near the transformers to record these critical parameters. The data gathered is then processed and archived within the system’s memory, offering utility companies a valuable tool for optimizing transformer utilization and preempting catastrophic failures. Further enhancing its utility, the system updates these parameters on a web interface, enabling remote monitoring. In cases of transformer malfunction, it seamlessly switches to an alternate transformer, thereby ensuring uninterrupted power supply. This switch is managed through Internet of Things (IoT) technology, which also triggers alerts to the responsible personnel upon detecting any irregularities. Overall, this innovative system not only augments transformer longevity but also contributes to the overall health and efficiency of the power distribution network.
