Transfer Function Matrix Derivation for Improved Control and Stability in HVAC Systems Performance

This paper demonstrates the development and application of transfer function matrix representing a multivariable HVAC system, highlighting its essential role in control and regulatory aspects, particularly within automatic control strategies. Leveraging a readymade mathematical model inclusive of distributed and lumped parameter components, forms the foundation for extracting this matrix, ensuring a precise representation of system dynamics. Methodologically, the research entails extracting the matrix from the system’s responses to array of input variations, spanning alterations in fan and chilled water pump voltages alongside ambient heat transfer fluctuations. Employing MATLAB’s System Identification Toolbox facilitates the conversion of time-domain responses into frequency-domain representations, thereby enhancing control design, tuning, stability, and interaction analyses. This detailed matrix system improves understanding and employment of the transfer function matrices in HVAC systems. It gives deep insights into how system works, helping to easily use advanced control methods to make the system work better and more efficiently.
