Design of a cost-effective coaxial magnetic gearbox associated with PMG for wind turbine application

A coaxial magnetic gear (CMG) with permanent magnets (PMs) integrated into a stator with a set of slots presented a pseudo-direct-drive generator (PDDG). The integration of PDDG in large scale wind turbine (WT) applications can effectively improve torque density and reduce torque ripple. But the problem remains is the very expensive cost of this configuration. This is what pushed researchers to look for suitable optimization methods to minimize the cost of the PDDG. Among the different optimization methods, the genetic algorithm (GA) is very considered in optimization problems thanks to its efficiency. In this paper, a model of PDDG is integrated to elaborate the optimization problem based on a GA optimization to minimize the cost of the proposed generator. As an outcome, an optimal solution offered 36.98 % cost reduction in WT conversion system.
