Simulation and Analysis using Matlab and Simulink® of a Car Suspension System Model Under Different Road Conditions: A Project-based Learning Approach

This study aims to analyse, control, and observe the Quarter Car Suspension System Model using Simulink. We begin by simplifying the system to a 1-D multiple spring-damper configuration and constructing its state-space representation. Testing the model under various road conditions, we then delve into diagonalization to obtain eigenvalues, crucial for understanding system behaviour. Exploring Controllability and Observability, we employ a State-feedback approach for pole placement in MATLAB, utilizing the state feedback gain matrix K. Incorporating state observers, we enhance system observation capabilities. Finally, we design a state-feedback Observer-Based Control scheme using the matrix Ke, optimizing performance. This research advances the understanding and control of suspension systems, leveraging state variables, transfer functions, and advanced control techniques in MATLAB and Simulink.
