Integral Quasi Sliding Mode Control for MPPT of a Standalone Photovoltaic System Without Storage

The aim of this study is to assess the performance of Integral Quasi-Sliding Mode Control (IQ-SMC) for a photovoltaic system to ensure the tracking of the maximum power point (MPPT). The considered system contains a resistive load, a boost converter and a PV solar generator. The study begins by defining a reference voltage, where the power is maximum and then applies the IQ-SMC method based on regulating the output to this reference voltage by adjusting dynamically the duty cycle of the boost converter. Two scenarios are examined to assess the effectiveness of the IQ-SMC method: one under constant temperature and solar irradiance conditions, and another during their fluctuations. The performance assessment examines various parameters, including tracking error, transition responsiveness, and sensitivity to variations in solar irradiance and temperature. The stability of the system is assessed using Lyapunov's theorem. Ultimately, the efficiency of the developed control approach is compared to Conventional Sliding Mode Control (CSMC) and Quasi-Sliding Mode Control (Q-SMC) to demonstrate a particular interest for the photovoltaic systems.
