Server Load Balancing Scheme Based on Weighted-Round Robin Combined with Least Connections Algorithm in SDN

Load balancing mechanisms in data center networks are crucial technologies that impact the overall performance of the network, especially under high loads, determining the optimal functioning of servers and links. Traditional server load balancing techniques often rely on the server's operating system for implementation, and the load balancing algorithms tend to be relatively simplistic and fixed. In the context of SDN network architecture, with its layered and programmable characteristics, network engineers have more possibilities for optimization solutions. This article begins by analyzing the current state of load balancing techniques in SDN networks, with a specific focus on algorithms related to server load balancing. It then proposes a Weighted-Round Robin combined with Least Connections (W-RRLC) that combines the Round-robin algorithm with the Least connections algorithm and introduces a weighted index. Finally, simulation is conducted on the Mininet network platform, comparing it with traditional round-robin and least connections algorithms to validate its advantages in load distribution.
