Thermal Runaway Simulation of Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Based on Pyrosim Software

As the low carbon and clean energy, renewable energy has been more and more widely used. Energy storage battery is very helpful to solve the volatility of new energy. However, the safety of energy storage battery has always been a problem to be solved. In this paper, an energy storage cabinet composed of lithium iron phosphate battery pack is taken as the research object, and the thermal runaway process of the battery pack is simulated using pyrosim fire simulation software. According to the simulation results, the temperature field, flow velocity field, carbon dioxide concentration distribution and other parameters after the thermal runaway occurred were obtained, as well as the change of each parameter with time. After a local thermal runaway occurred in the electrical cabinet for 0.75 seconds, the combustion of the electrolyte caused a large amount of CO, CO
2
, and a high temperature area of around 400 degrees to be generated at the lower part of the thermal runaway battery. After 2.62 seconds, CO and the high temperature area quickly spread upwards and transferred to the top of the battery compartment. The CO
2
generated by combustion fills the entire cabin after 8 seconds and deposits at the bottom of the battery compartment around 24 seconds. This study has great significance in reducing the probability of thermal runaway of lithium iron phosphate battery and detecting the thermal runaway gas.
