A Broadband, Highly Efficient FPA Using Bandpass Filtering Matching Topology

This paper presents a broadband, highly efficient filtering power amplifier (FPA) with excellent integrated filtering characteristics. The proposed technique is based on the use of an asymmetrical open-circuit coupled-lines bandpass filter (BPF), which plays the role of an input matching network and an output matching network. The proposed filter not only greatly improves the bandpass filtering response, but also improves the second harmonic rejection performance. To demonstrate this concept, a broadband PA-filter component is designed and implemented, employing the Cree 10W GaN HEMT. Operating within the frequency range of 2.0-3.0 GHz, the FPA showcases a peak drain efficiency ranging from 45.9% -73.26%, with a corresponding peak output power of 38.5-41.95 dBm achieved at saturation across the specified frequency band.
