Voltage Profile Improvement Based on Optimal Allocation and Sizing Distributed Generation

Distributed Generation (DG) refers to small-scale power generation units, such as solar panels and wind turbines, that are connected to the distribution network. The integration of DG into power systems offers several benefits, including improvements in voltage profiles and reductions in power losses. An important aspect of integrating DG is determining the optimal locations for installing the DG units. Poor placement of DG units can negatively impact the voltage profile and overall system efficiency. To address this, optimization techniques are employed to identify the best allocation and sizing of DG units in the power system. This study focuses on the optimal allocation and sizing of DG units in a specific distribution system in Mosul city, consisting of an 8-bus substation. The Etap program is used for analysis and optimization. The results of the study demonstrate that the employed techniques effectively improve the voltage profile and reduce power losses, thereby enhancing the overall system efficiency.
