Influence of Pad Geometry on the Mechanical Study of a Disc Brake

The main objective of this fundamental research is to study the structural and mechanical behaviour of a disc brake with different geometrical pad configurations, keeping the contact surfaces equal and varying the values of contact angle and internal contact pad's radius

, during the braking process under dry contact slip conditions. A predictive analysis is carried out to determine the overall deformations, the Von Mises stress on the disc and the contact pressures on the pads at different simulation times. In the mechanical modelling of the disc brake, the disc/pad wear depth distribution was determined on the basis of Archard's law, taking into account the specific wear rate, contact pressure and sliding speed.
