Hydraulic Profile of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants: Bibliographic Synthesis and Innovative Perspectives

The calculation of the hydraulic profile for wastewater treatment plants requires a meticulous approach to hydraulic calibration to address operational issues related to overflows and hydraulic turbulence. Three hydraulic design approaches for Water Treatment Plants (WTP) and Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) have been identified, involving the establishment of hydraulic profiles after the selection of the flow diagram, the calculation of the hydraulic profile at the beginning of the design, and the progressive establishment of the profile during the sizing of structures. Despite the complexity of flow in wastewater treatment plants, hydraulic calculations are carried out for various flow scenarios, including average, peak during rainy weather, and minimum flows. The calculation of the hydraulic profile, conducted from the downstream control point to the upstream, may vary based on the designers' approach, underscoring the need for constant verification. Currently, no comprehensive hydraulic model for the calibration of STEP treatment plants has been published, emphasizing the significance of this work that presents different existing models with their specific constraints.
