Optimization of Source-Detector Separation of DRS Probe with Monte Carlo Simulation

In the field of diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), optimizing the source-detector separation (SDS) of the probe is important for enhancing signal-to-noise ratio and depth sensitivity. Monte Carlo simulation has emerged as a powerful tool for investigating light propagation in turbid media and guiding probe design. This study focuses on the optimization of the source-detector separation using Monte Carlo simulations. By systematically varying the separation distance and analyzing the resulting reflectance spectra, we aim to identify the optimal configuration that maximizes sensitivity to tissue properties while minimizing noise. Our findings reveal that the source-detector separations of 0.3mm and 0.6mm yield optimal results, emphasizing the suitability of specific SDS configurations for applications such as non-invasive biomedical diagnostics and monitoring.
