Simulation Analysis of Steady-State Current-Carrying Capacity for 220 kV High-Voltage AC Submarine Cables under J-Shaped Pipe Deployment

The J-shaped pipe plays a crucial role in protecting submarine cables during the transmission of offshore wind power. Due to the complex deployment environment of the J-shaped pipe, spanning multiple segments, a comprehensive exploration of the impact of different environmental factors on the steady-state current-carrying capacity of submarine cables under J-shaped pipe deployment becomes particularly important. In this study, utilizing the COMSOL Multiphysics finite element (FEM) simulation software, we constructed an electric-magnetic-thermal field coupling model for the deployment of 220 kV high-voltage alternating current submarine cables under the J-shaped pipe. The aim was to investigate the influence of J-shaped pipe thickness, solar radiation intensity, and air temperature on the cable's current-carrying capacity. The results indicate that, during J-shaped pipe deployment, the overall temperature of the air segment is approximately 40 °C higher than that of the seabed segment, becoming a vulnerable link in the current-carrying capacity. In contrast, the thickness of the J-shaped pipe segment has a relatively minor impact on the current-carrying capacity. The air temperature, however, has the most significant effect, with cable current-carrying capacity decreasing by approximately 17% as the air temperature rises. Simultaneously, with the increase in radiation intensity, the cable's current-carrying capacity shows a decreasing trend.
