Optimizing Farm Insect Image Classification: A Transfer Learning Approach with Model Selection

Contemporary farming faces numerous challenges, with hazardous crops and agricultural pests being prominent among them. This study examines the complex interplay between these variables, focusing on how crops and insects synergistically contribute to hazards faced by farmers and the security of the global food supply. The research begins by categorizing deleterious crops, exploring their underlying mechanisms and the threats they pose to agricultural ecosystems. In addition to jeopardizing crop output, such crops may endanger the future of agriculture due to toxic substance levels, susceptibility to diseases, or invasive traits. Simultaneously, the study delves into various agricultural pests that can inflict damage on crops. These pests, ranging from disease vectors to crop destroyers, pose a significant challenge to farmers worldwide. To deepen the understanding of these insects and their adaptability, behavior, and geographic distribution, this study analyzes their biology in detail. This study further explores the complex relationship between harmful crops and farm insects, highlighting how the former can exacerbate the effects of the latter, leading to cascading impacts on agricultural economies, global food production, and ecosystems. To address these challenges, the study proposes a comprehensive strategy incorporating sustainable agriculture practices, advancements in crop breeding and genetic engineering, and integrated pest management tactics. The goal is to develop resilient crops capable of withstanding destructive insect attacks with minimal reliance on pesticides. This study contributes to the ongoing efforts to safeguard agricultural sustainability and food security in the face of evolving challenges.
