T-Shaped Millimeter Wave Patch Antenna Element with Enhanced Performance for 5G Era

This paper proposes a T-shaped microstrip patch antenna(MPA)tailored for 28 GHz frequency band applications in 5G communication systems. The antenna design is implemented on dielectric substrate, RogerRT5880 having dielectric constant, loss tangent and thickness equal to2.2, 0.0009, 0.5 mm respectively. The compact footprint of 8 * 10 * 0.5 mm³ is characterized by a distinctive T-shaped radiating element. The geometry of the T-shaped patch is carefully tuned using CST studio suite 3D EM simulation software, to achieve optimal performance at the desired frequency. Its compact size is crucial for meeting the stringent space requirement of modern communication devices. The proposed design achieved a remarkable return loss of -54.5315 dB, indicating excellent impedance matching and minimal signal reflections. Radiation efficiency is 83.9%. An appreciable gain of 7.776dB is exhibited which is crucial for overcoming propagation losses associated with higher frequency bands, ensuring reliable and high-speed data transmission in 5G networks. The compact size, low return loss, appreciable gain, linearly polarized, favorable radiation pattern are some of the attributes of proposed Tshaped patch antenna, that makes it an attractive solution for the ever-evolving landscape of wireless communication systems, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and data transfer capabilities in the 5G era.
