Fuzzy PI Based Speed control of Sensorless Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Utilizing a sensorless control approach allows the elimination of mechanical position sensors from the gearbox, thereby reducing maintenance costs and enhancing system robustness. This article presents a sensorless control system for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives, utilizing a model reference adaptive system (MRAS) observer with switching proportional-integral (PI) control and incorporating fuzzy logic control (FLC). The key contributions of this research encompass the introduction of a voltage compensation approach relying on a disturbance observer to address voltage distortion issues in PMSM systems powered by voltage source inverters (VSI). Additionally, a dual closed-loop FLC is devised for speed and current control, enhancing speed regulation performance, and command voltage accuracy, and eliminating the need for manual adjustment of control parameters. Furthermore, a sensorless control strategy employing a switching PI control-based MRAS observer is proposed for stator resistance tracking. The MRAS observer, by employing different thresholds, selects the suitable PI adaptive mechanism based on the current error variable's amplitude, thereby enhancing resistance estimation accuracy and dynamic performance in sensorless control. Experimental results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
