Optical Beam Steering of 16x64 Optical Phased Arrays with Small-range Tunable Lasers

Large-scale integrated 16x64 silicon photonics optical phased arrays (OPAs) are demonstrated to provide 40 degrees of steering angle with a <20-nm wavelength tunable laser and 1x16 optical switches. The design allows less control circuitry, simplified phase error correction, and relaxed requirements on integrated tunable lasers.
