Effective Methods in Cybersecurity Education for Beginners

The need for highly skilled human resource development to respond to cybersecurity threats is increasing. In Japan, human resource development projects in cyber security, in the form of training based on exercises, are becoming more and more prevalent. Previous studies have indicated that the effectiveness of practical problem-solving education is different from that of traditional classroom education. In this study, we examined whether practical, exercise-based education is effective for Japanese students. We found that exercise-based education can improve students' knowledge of cyber security. For students who have limited knowledge of cyber security, we found that a combination of classroom lectures and practical training would be most effective.
