Web Page Editor with Automatic Interconversion Function

Web page editors have been proposed that allow for automatic refresh and display of web pages, as well as manual conversion from visual blocks to HTML text and vice versa. The web page editors are usually implemented as web applications, and it applies to this study as well. However, no software seems to have automatic interconversion function between visual blocks and HTML text. This study aims to create a web page editor capable of automatic interconversion between visual blocks and HTML text. The proposed web page editor can read local image files, which is usually impossible to automate in a web application, due to security constraints. We circumvent this difficulty by utilizing Chrome Extensions and the File System Access API. As a result, the user is once asked explicit permission for the access to a particular directory, and the access is granted thereafter for automatic interconversion. The web page editor was experimented in a Japanese school to evaluate its effectiveness, where most students responded affirmatively to a questionnaire about using it for learning.
