An Analysis of Smartphone Addiction among College Students in Chennai

Today’s college students almost universally rely on their Smartphone for a variety of duties, including internet surfing, messaging, talking, calling, e-mailing, document creating, computation, playing video games, and music listening. Teenagers worldwide engage in compulsive behaviors, including Smartphone addiction. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is an association between this addictive behavior and Loyola College-Chennai undergraduate and postgraduate, male and female, urban and rural students. It employs a non-experimental descriptive study design to determine the pattern and addictive behavior. A standardized questionnaire with 30 items was sent to 200 randomly selected college students aged 18 to 24. The primary data came from their responses. The hypotheses were investigated using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study demonstrates the mixed impact of smartphone use on social interaction and behavior. The results show that college students are very addicted to their smartphones. The study’s conclusions might be utilized to alert academics, officials, and college management about which student groups are more at risk. By focusing on these students, the right interventions can be created to raise their academic performance. According to the study, it could be one of the most important references in future research linking Smartphone addiction to other characteristics. It could also be used to identify technological addiction. The study’s findings could assist college students in overcoming their addiction. It might also create a suitable module to help them make the greatest use of their Smartphone
