A Virtual Platform for EV Drivetrain Testing Based on Low-Power Hardware in the Loop System

This work focuses on developing a virtual low-power hardware-in-the-loop (LPHIL) system for emulating electric vehicle drivetrains. The platform offers a secure and adaptable environment to test diverse control strategies, power switches, and machine types with high fidelity, eliminating the need for high-power components. It incorporates detailed models of batteries, IGBT power converters with internal losses, permanent magnet synchronous motors, and vehicle dynamics. Using three drive cycles (WLTP3, NEDC, and FTP75), the system demonstrates capabilities such as observing efficiency, power losses, IGBT temperature variations, control system behaviour, and the impact of DC voltage limitations.
