The Design and Implementation of a Contactless Lift Control Panel for the Prevention of Coronavirus

The implementation of a contactless lift control panel is a method utilized to mitigate physical interaction between lift users and the control panel. The reason for this is attributed to the lift control panel, which has been designated as a high-contact surface with a significant potential for transmitting the coronavirus. The duration of coronavirus viability on plastic and stainless-steel surfaces is reported to be as long as seven days. These materials are commonly utilized in lift settings, particularly at control panels. The current lift control panel employs a push-button mechanism that requires direct physical contact to issue commands to the lift regarding floor destinations. This has emerged as a significant concern considering the global impact of the coronavirus. The present study centers on the development, construction, and experimentation of a contactless lift control panel utilizing Arduino technology. The touchless paradigm employed in this project involves the utilization of infrared sensors to detect and interpret user input commands. Individuals are solely obligated to position their fingertips within the detection range, rather than making direct contact with the button. The implementation of this project within an actual lift system has the potential to effectively mitigate direct contact between users and the lift control panel, thereby reducing the transmission of the coronavirus disease, particularly in the context of lift sharing.
