New Approach for Development of Outage Capacity Table for Assessment of Generation System Reliability Indices

as a result of the increasing load and the huge fluctuation in the existing generation systems capacity, the reliability assessment of the generation system has become a necessity. This paper presents an approach for constructing outage capacity table using assessment of generation system reliability indices. In the proposed method, power system units are classification into different subsets which each subset contains units with same capacity and forced outage rate. An Outage Capacity Table (OCT) of each subset and consequently Total Outage Capacity Table (TOCT) can be obtained by presented formula. Finally, two reliability indices namely Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) and Expected Energy not Served (EENS) are calculated. The TOCT is remarkably smaller compared to OCTs obtained by other methods. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in assessment of the generation system reliability indices, it is applied on the IEEE reliability test systems 79 and 96 and the results are presented
