A Multi-Level Inverter Using Single-Carrier PWM and DC Levels Shifting

This paper presents a multi-level inverter using a single-carrier PWM (SCPWM) and dc level shifting. The proposed system uses the H-bridge topology for cascading and constructing the output voltage. The proposed system has two parts; the first is a high-speed switching to support the SCPWM, and the second is a low-speed with 7 modules for dc level shifting. These two parts are combined to construct the ac voltage output at 17 levels and the output ac voltage regulation is controlled by the PI controller from 0V to 271V with a frequency in the range of 40-65 Hz. A detailed proposed topology analysis is presented and verified followed by simulation results to verify the advantages of the proposed converter system.
