A Data-Driven Approach for Event Detection in Distribution Systems using Micro-PMU Measurements

This study introduces and validates a First Difference (FD) event detection method for power distribution systems, assessing its performance in both simulated and real-world scenarios. Utilizing the IEEE 13-bus feeder system in a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) and Micro-Phasor Measurement Unit (Micro-PMU) data from a distribution system, the proposed FD method proves effective in identifying events such as voltage variations and power-related measures. Unlike comparative methods dependent on precise bounds, the proposed FD method exhibits adaptability across different window lengths, showcasing consistent performance.
