The DC Voltage Controller Design of Traction Substation in Heavy Rail Systems

The DC voltage for the traction substation is normally generated from the electricity authority via twelve-pulse diode rectifier. As a result, the DC voltage is not constant depending on the load. In this paper, the three-phase two-level six-switch boost-type rectifier is introduced for the traction substation in which the DC voltage can be regulated to 750V for all operations. Moreover, the proposed rectifier can allow the energy from the train regenerative braking back to the electricity authority as well as the PV arrays in the future. The details how to design the controllers for the active front-end rectifier are explained in the paper. The simulation results from the exact topological model of MATLAB are used to show the effectiveness of the new architecture of traction substation in heavy rail system.
