Investigating the Relationship Between SAR and Optical Data Indices for Cereal Monitoring

Continuous satellite data acquisition is essential for the effective crop monitoring. Unfortunately, optical data frequently relies on sunlight and weather conditions, prompting the utilization of complementary satellite data such as SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data. In this context, our study aims to investigate the correlation between spectral indices employed in crop monitoring, specifically for cereal crops, like NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), GNDVI (Green Normalized Difference Vegetation), EVI (enhanced vegetation Index), GCVI (green chlorophyll vegetation index), and NDWI (Normalized Difference Water Index), and the arithmetic combinations of amplitudes extracted from SAR data in VV and VH polarizations in order to ensure a time series for cereal crop monitoring. The experiments were conducted in the Sidi-Bel-Abbès region, yielding encouraging results.
