Novel Hybrid Approach for Advancing Power System Security Analysis

The persistent recurrence of power system blackouts in recent years underscores the pressing need to address voltage instability and its subsequent collapse. This study proposes a novel solution in the form of the Hybrid Line Stability Ranking Index (HLSRI), tailored specifically for forecasting voltage collapse within power system networks (PSNs). Using a thorough development process, HLSRI combines the basic expressions of the Line Stability Index (Lmn) and the Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI). It also includes a switching logic based on voltage angle differentials, which are known to happen before voltage collapse. Testing HLSRI on the IEEE 30-bus system shows that it works, as it gives results that are similar to known indicators in both normal and emergencies. Notably, under contingency analysis, the vulnerability of bus 30 emerges, with the line connecting bus 06 to bus 10 identified as critical. However, HLSRI, alongside Lmn and FVSI, exhibits consistent values, affirming its accuracy in gauging line stability amidst system perturbations. The research underscores the importance of innovative methodologies like HLSRI in fortifying power system resilience against disruptive events, thus advancing the field of power system stability analysis.
